National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Fine Arts - 1979.

 

I have worked in the Sculpture Department of the SANDF for a period of six years. Thereafter I was employed by the University of Pretoria, first as a Technical assistant and later became a lecturer in the Fine Arts (Sculpture) Department as well as a lecturer at Tshwane University of Technology’s Entertainment Technology (Props Department).

 

Prior to 2012 my career as a sculptor was sporadic taking part in group exhibitions on average every 5 years whilst working fulltime as either a lecturer or later running a small manufacturing business. Through-out my adult life I’ve been involved with sculpture or 3D objects in one way nor another.

 

As of beginning 2012 I decided to commit myself full time to sculpture. Once again I’m able to meet and work with like-minded people, sharing ideas, work methodology etc. So far it’s been a fun and an amazing experience. I don’t care much for accolades and such – it’s more about the experience of making sculpture and in a very selfish way pleasing myself. If my work happens to please you it’s an absolute bonus.

 

My skills as an artist / sculptor includes:

• Bronze casting (investment, sand casting to ceramic shell) including the complete process of fetling, MIG/TIG welding etc

• Mould making (from plaster, fibre-glass to silicon and urethane)

• Clay sculpting (wet & oil)

• Carving Wood (& polystyrene, polyurethane foam)

• Teaching clay modelling & carving

• Management of studio
